Never happened in over 10 years: I got an frozen automated backup. Normally finishes in 10-20 minutes to a Hetzner storage box. I can see a few MB transfered for a domain but then it hangs.
Could not found the log and found the job in:
/var/webmin/modules/virtual-server/backuprunnings
The process is still there:
root 1187725 0.0 0.8 153148 142340 ? S 03:15 0:02 /usr/share/webmin/virtual-server/backup.pl
Thinking out loud here.
If you kill it and have the logging enabled, would you still not get something in the log from that?
If not you can restart the job from within virtualmin, start it not “Backup in background”, but “backup Now” and you’ll see the live log so you should be able to see where it ‘hangs’.
Maybe it’s just a glitch and doesn’t happen ever again… then you will never know..
Not sure, but I think this should clear itself when a new job is started.
Unless you mean the backup files created by the hung job, the results on your backup store location.
If so, then yes you can delete those files as a new backup should be present by now.
Any way, do make sure no backups are running while deleting any of those related files.
Any file should be deleted by itself if you use the
keep last X backups
Setting in your scheduled backups jobs enabled.
It should be ok, I checked and there where 2 old 2025 files in there. nothing from my last backup.
Just to confirm I ran a diff scheduled backup manually and the file created was deleted after backup finished.
