if you don’t see this appear the goto webmin->webmin configuration->Background Status Collection and toggle the arrowed setting to never back to 5 mins
I don’t use the servers status module at I tend to remove it from the dashboard and use the system monitors module as in some cases it’s more powerful so on my production server the dashboard looks like this
I totally agree, the server status thing should be removed and replaced with system monitors with the the abilities to start/stop/restart the service from the gui. That said it maybe possible in that instance to and a monitor, added by the user, that if stopped or restarted could cause a total server failure that would need to be addressed
I have that setting switched on with ‘anyone with access can view’ set, however I do not see the system monitors in the side slider should the monitor setting be root only ?
Thanks for that. I have “Tools ⇾ System and Server Status” module’s config using “Show monitors on Dashboard” option too, but it doesn’t show up on the side. Just ‘Servers Status’ as pictured above.
@Ilia, @Jamie, It’s kind of bug-like that we have two different “status” displays, and they don’t share the same data and configuration (the Virtualmin dashboard and the System and Server Status module). In the old days when folks would run Virtualmin alongside a bunch of other services maybe not managed by Virtualmin, maybe it made sense.
I know they operate differently, and via a different mechanism, but end users don’t know that and shouldn’t need to know that. We should make System and Server Status able to do whatever extra stuff is needed for the dashboard, and installation of Virtualmin should prune everything that isn’t a Virtualmin service from the configured monitors in that module. (We probably should start empty in Webmin itself, maybe just ssh. There’s no reason to have a bunch of random monitors pre-configured, especially for uncommon services. As I recall, we’ve got Squid and some other odd stuff setup by default.)
