Fedora 7 upgrade recommendations

Hey all…

I’ve been using Virtualmin and FC4 on our production server now for a few years and it’s time for me to upgrade to FC7.

Now the big question I’ve pondered is how is this going to be achieved with as little down-time as possible.

I was thinking of doing the upgrade via yum but I don’t think this method plays nicely with Fedora let alone having Virtualmin on top.

So the alternative, and the recommended way would be to do a clean install. This could be a dumb question, but is it possible to install a distro on a hard drive in a different machine, restore all backed up virtualmin servers and then swap the newly installed hard drive with the old one which has a completely different motherboard but same architecture?

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for upgrading a production server…?

Cheers,
Ryan
