Does

Is there anything I can do to make sure I catch the same google server each time?

Howdy,

Hmm, both appear to be hitting the remote server and deliver a message… does the first message perhaps appear in a spam folder?

Apologies,

Forgot to respond to this:-

Both were received. The first just took several HOURS to actually appear in the inbox. Apparently there is a known delay in NTL -> Virigin -> Google emails, although I’ve never heard of it before.
