Dear All,
This is my first post here after I’ve fpund myself in trouble after from 2 machines I’ve combine them into 1.
so on one machine I’ve done a full backup and then went to the second one and click on restore.
in the first one I had domain1 and domain2 - both of them working ok and on the second machine I had domain3 working just fine…

after the restore operation on the second machine I have: domain1, domain2 and domain3…
the 1st machine was disposed off because it was too old… now the domain3 is working fine I cand send and receive emails like before no problem at all but with regard teh domain 1 and domain2 I have some dificulties in receiving emails…

if I send an email from domain1 or domain2 or domain3 to my yahoo or gmail or domain3 email all is working just fine and as intended - the email is sent succesfully but when I clic reply it doesn’t matter what user send the email because only user1@domain3 receive it - domain3 have only one user user1@domain3

so if I sent a replay to userx@domain1 from usera@gmail I will get it into the user1@domain3 inbox but with the to coreclty (userx@domain1) and from is again corectly but instead to be in the inbox of domain 1 is camming in the inbox of domain3 - the one that was on this machine from the beginning…

any idea what could go wrong in importing the back-ups??
many thanks Andrei Areinte

Is your system hostname domain1? Have you altered mydomain, mydestination, myhostname, myorigin in Postfix main.cf. (You shouldn’t do any of that.)

Also, you need to look at the Postfix log (either in /var/log/mail.log or in the journal for the postfix unit) when you try to send an email that ends up in the wrong place to see why it’s ending up there.

Also look at /etc/postfix/virtual to see if things look sane. Are those mailboxes maybe being routed to the other domain?

Many thanks… indeed because the hostname of the computer was that same with it’s original hosted only domain … I’ve just changed the domain name and wau… is working all fine…many thanks…

Don’t forget some OS does not write this file and some can be quite pedantic on where the data is written to. It may be worth giving the OP some hints on how to use the journal as most will have no idea on what your talking about

When I flagged this I hadn’t realized the poster DID make a change. They included a link to their site.
