Email configuration question

I want to set email up so that it’s under subdomain, my.domain.tld. So email addresses will be user@my.domain.tld and there won’t be any user@domain.tld.
But I’m not sure how to do it with virtualmin, do I have it “accept mail” for both, or just my. ?

Does mail.domain.tld need to exist or just mail.my.domain.tld?

First and foremost, mail is a reserved subdomain which is used by Virtualmin. You should not use it for hosting a website or offering it as a vanity URL to your clients. It is best to avoid reference to that domain and let Virtualmin use it behind the scenes just the way it is supposed to be used.

Now, to answer your question: just mail.my.domain.tld needs to exist. If you are using a third party DNS service you need to manually create and configure that domain.

I would create a top level virtual server in Virtualmin for domain.tld and another top level virtual server for my.domain.tld; use the first domain for web and the second one for mail.

I wasn’t planning to host anything on it?

Thanks
