Ec2 instance questions

I’ve done the auto install of virtualmin on an amazon ec2 instance.

When I do the system check the following message is the result:

"Virtualmin is configured to setup DNS zones, but this system is not setup to use itself as a DNS server. Either add 127.0.0.1 to the list of DNS servers, or turn off the BIND feature on the module config page. It appears that DHCP is being used to dynamically configure your network interfaces, which can cause the DNS servers to be set based on settings provided by the DHCP server. Using a static IP address is strongly recommended with Virtualmin.

… your system is not ready for use by Virtualmin."

What do I need to do to resolve this and start using Virtualmin ?

Thanks much! I’m a bit stumped. I have registered a domain for this instance and have assigned an elastic ip to it. When I use the ip for the URL it brings up the login for webmin as expected.

I suspect I will need to create a virtual server using virtualmin once the above is resolved, then point the domain to the ns1 ns2 for that virtual server. What will the ns1 etc actually be for the virtual servers created using virtualmin???

How can I make the name servers be ns1. My domain.com etc?

Are you using VPC in EC2?

Yes.

any further information regarding this topic?

Howdy,

Well, regarding the error you’re seeing – that can be fixed by setting /etc/resolv.conf to use “127.0.0.1” as it’s DNS server.

In order to setup a server as a nameserver, there is a section in the documentation here titled “How do I setup nameservers for my server?” that should help:

This worked for me indeed but every time the settings get reloaded (or computer restarted) it gets back to the old settings…
