30 years ago, my man. 1995 My first pc a 486, wife came home and said; honey look what I bought, new pc and a car, v6 Ford Granada, man that thing drank, as I do today. That PC wowed me. Thank you Heather not for the mariage but for the PC. She was doing a post grad in anthroplogy in Pontypridd uni.

Early 90’s, sitting at my 486 listening to the whale and squeal of my modem
:smiling_face_with_tear: Miss those days

My bro, hugs and kisses. Dukenukem3d over modem lol

I wonder what Joe and llia were doing then. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

@stefan1959 Thanks! This has been on my todo list for a while.

yeah. it seems these days all you need to do is register a domain, assign it a ip and you get attacked by all sorts of bots. I sometimes wonder if the AI employed by the registrars to check if a domain is available lays a path to their door

The question is why are you getting spam. Why would anyone want to spam you?

Paranoia. Thing is alot of people are out there doing things that attract spam.

is addictive :syringe:

must be the domain names i seem to attract :russia: :china: :ambulance: :drop_of_blood:

Hard to get a good one these days. I did come across a nice domain the other day that seemed to be free. Forget now, my dementia kicking in or I just didnt givafk.

Why do people want to spam me, specifically?

Why are there seagulls? Why is the sky blue?

I have noticed that most of the time we start getting a lot of spam right before receiving a notice like:

Dear Valued Member:

ah … I try to keep all above board.

Back then, I was a FIDOnet-node with lots of “points”, and really into computers. Our phone line was always busy and impossible for regular people to reach, day and night.

I also remember playing 1v1 with friends in competitive games like Duke Nukem 3D, Quake and Doom over dial-up modem and direct serial. We had game nights at my place where they’d bring their own desktop and monitor—a kind of thing.

@Ilia
The good old days of LAN parties

I remember getting your sound blaster to give you sound when playing Doom was tricky.
