Cant access the outside internet from my webmin server

SYSTEM INFORMATION
OS type and version Debian 12
Webmin version 2.101

Hi all, apologies if this is a dim question but for som reason I cant access the internet from within my Webmin/virtualmin server. I have done a fresh install of both on the server and are setting it up but I can’t access any package updates or new packages since it can connect to the servers on which they are hosted. When I try to connect to github it says “Network unreachable”. The same is true when I run package updates or a simple ping command to google.com. I dont run a proxy on my home network and have checked my gateway is set to be correct.

Any ideas as to whats gone wrong would be much appreciated.

What DNS server does the server use to resolve queries? Is it actually resolving “google.com” to an IP-address when you ping it? if it doesn’t, you could (temporarily or permanently) add public DNS servers to /etc/resolv.conf to make resolving work fine and access packages & internet. If you want to use the locally hosted DNS server though, looks like you might have to configure it correctly.

If DNS is not the issue (i.e. it is already resolving correctly) then I’d look into the network configuration and firewall.
