Unreadable as in garbled?
Found this. I know my client asks to compress on occasion.

But, it seems dynamic for transport?
Zlib comes up with both so it might be a place to start.

I think in order to not f**k up my production server I will stand up a temporary server and experiment on that. For now I will just keep taking the flack from the client!
