How different is it exactly?
Look on the right, the tables for backup here are correct. But when I do a backup, a different file comes out.
The parameters passed to the mysqldump
command may differ from those in phpMyAdmin. In Webmin, you can control this by using the “Add custom parameters to backup command?” field.
Should I write this command here?
It depends on what you’re trying to achieve—I can’t answer that directly. Just a reminder, parameters must start with --
. I’d highly recommend reading the mysqldump
documentation by running man mysqldump
.
I have a vps server with 5 wordpress websites and I want to automatically backup my sql databases every evening. Can I do it with virtualmin?? From what I see it is difficult and I have tired you with my questions. Sorry but I do not know English well enough to read the documentation.
VM virtualmin backup and restore is all I use, it restores database fine.
To reassure yourself, create a test domain and add wordpress site. Do a backup, then add some changes to the wordpress site.
Then use restore and see if it takes it back to before the changes,
Can you show me with a picture the settings you have made? It’s not working properly for me.
Ok I created a example domain and added wordpress (don’t won’t to test on live site)
Backed up the domain.
made a change in wordpress
restore database
maybe the difference in the file that phpmyadmin makes is that virtualmin will delete the database so it does not need the check table exists lines as there will be no tables.
I did the same thing you did. Look at the image, the first file is export from phpmyadmin, the second backup from virtualmin. As you can see the files have a different size and inside they have different content. Can you do the same to see the sql size?
The second file does not contain the database tables. It has other content.
If you want, I can send you the files so you can see that I’m right.
I wouldn’t even know where to find the sql file in the backup, all I see is a heap of folders.
I’ve moved my whole server using backup and restore and I have over 10 wordpress site. All database restored fine.
The copy .sql file is located in the .backup folder.
Look at this.
This is getting off-topic. The structure of Virtualmin domain backups isn’t really what OP is worrying about, which is about SQL dumps, specifically. If you have questions about the format of a Virtualmin backup, maybe open a new topic with your questions (but, just keep digging, you’ll see more obviously named stuff if you poke around).
I go to maria db database server > click on sql file > backup database. I select Character set for backup (default) and save. A message appears saying that it saved. When I play again, the Character set for backup (default) does not save. Why? What is the problem?
So I click here…
Save ok…
And I see that it doesn’t save the setting I set.
Are you using virtualmin PRO or GPL ?
That’s irrelevant. Backup features are in both Pro and GPL. Only some cloud destinations are limited to Pro. Nothing under discussion in this thread is Pro-specific.
just interested that’s all
