Avahi breaks resolv.conf ?!

This just seems crazy. Does anyone else have an ipv4+ipv6 config that’s properly working? Perhaps this has something to do with using dhcp… not sure:

  • My avahi has both ipv4 and ipv6 enabled
  • If I actually allow everything to go through…
  1. dhcp obtains the ipv4 address and sets up resolv.conf properly
  2. Then avahi does the same for ipv6… and REPLACES resolv.conf with just the ipv6 info!
  3. Thus, ipv4 info in resolv.conf is gone :frowning:

Yep, another form of workaround, with more overhead. Basically checks to see if (something) has accidentally removed ipv4 from resolv.conf, and re-adds it.

Fine as a hacky/crufty workaround, terrible as a design solution

The first two links don’t appear to relate. The last one (on NetworkManager) may relate.
At the very least, quite a lot of people get confused about the proper way to use these new tools without creating radical confusion and broken networks

Time to dig in further when I get a few more round tuits…
