Any problem with change permissions on /var/log/virtualmin folder?

Will either of these cause issues (or be reset by updates)?:

chmod 755 /var/log/virtualmin
usermod -aG www-data syslog

I am planning to use a shell script service to tail Fail2Ban logs and email reports about banned IPs (what they wanted to get in, how many times they’ve been banned recently, etc) and it could not read the files without these changes in testing.

Thanks.
